Former Residence of Joseph Locke
Yu Hu Village is situated at the southern foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which is in the north of Old Town of Lijiang. Joseph Locke (1884-1962), an American explorer, writer and photographer of National Geographic, has been living at the foot of Jade Dragon Mountain for 27 years.
Former residence of Joseph Locke is a courtyard containing three rooms. In the living room of Locke, his relics including bed, table, chair, fire pan, bookshelf, alarm clock, etc. are displayed. Besides, massive photos with notable meaning took by Locke in those days and other Locke’s relics left in Lijiang, such as his coat, shotgun, tools used in woodwork and leather suitcase, which were brought by Locke from the West, are also showed. Locke comprehensively introduced ethnic culture in Lijiang to western scholars at an earlier time.
