Baidicheng

Baidicheng

Baidicheng is located at the mouth of Qutang Gorge which is one of the Three Gorges of Yangtze River. It is against Kui Gate of Qutang Gorge in the east and is surrounded with water on three sides. Therefore, it was always the point of battle in history because of its key location.

In Baidicheng, some ancient architecture can be seen and Tuogu Tang (Entrusting Son's Hall) is the most attractive one. Another major feature is Observing Stars Pavilion (Guanxing Ting). There is also a stele forest full of ancient suspended wooden coffins, painting and calligraphy works left by celebrities of different dynasties.

Since water level rose due to Three Gorges Dam Project, Baidicheng has become an isolated island surrounded with water. A wind-rain bridge and a dock were built in order to facilitate tourists to visit this ancient temple.
