Shaolin Temple

Shaolin Temple

Located at the foot of Songshan Mountain near Dengfeng City of Henan Province in central China, and constructed during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), Shaolin Temple is well known as cradle of Chinese Zen Buddhism and Shaolin Martial Arts such as Shaolin Cudgel.

Covering an area of 30,000 square meters, Shaolin Temple embraces many exciting attractions, such as the Hall of Heavenly Kings (Tianwangdian), the Mahavira Hall (Daxiongbaodian), the Pagoda Forest, the Dharma Cave and the Shaolin Temple Martial Art Training Center.

According to legend, Dharma came to Songshan Mountain along Guangzhou and Nanjing, where he carried on and promoted Chinese Zen Buddhism, making Shaolin Temple in a prime position. And in Tang Dynasty, Shaolin Temple’s reputation was greatly boosted for the story of “Thirteen Stick Buddhist Monks Support the Tang Dynasty”. With special support from Tang Dynasty, Shaolin Temple had its own warrior monks, making it one of the significant representatives in Chinese Martial Arts.

With old architecture & the stupas and amazing martial arts performances, visitors can have a feast for their eyes and enjoy tasty vegetarian meals at the same time.
