First Bend of the Yangtze River
Yangtze River, the longest and most important river in China, rushes down from the roof of the world, the- Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and then surges into Shangri-La, Yunnan Province from its northwest, converging with the Lancang River and the Nu River in the mountain ranges. When coming to the Stone Drum Town in Yulong County, it suddenly makes a 100 degree turn, heading to the northeast, and forms a rare V-shaped bend at an area of about 50km. The First Bend of the Yangtze River is about 70km from Lijiang town with an elevation of 1,850m.The extraordinary geological phenomenon of the First Bend of the Yangtze River has deeply influenced the formation of the river.
Surrounded by water and mountains, the First Bay of the Yangtze has picturesque scenery, the river flowing slowly in the broad channel, a belt of willows growing along the bank, Yunling Mountains stretching around and enclosing it, tiers of terraced fields entwining the mountain slope, connecting with flat fields and farmhouses, which enjoys a reputation of "mini Jiangnan (south of the Yangtze)".
The river is broad at the Stone Drum Town, where the water flows slowly, which is suitable for ferrying across the river. So, it has always been a place of strategic importance in the history.
