Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum
Located in Xibei Road in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum serves as the research and collection center for cultural relics in Xinjiang. Built in 1953, it is a provincial level comprehensive historical museum, which featured Uygur architectural style. With an exhibition area of 7,800 square meters, the museum boasts 50,000 pieces of collections including historical relics, national relics and revolutionary ones.
The museum possesses 3 themed exhibition halls, including Exhibition of Xinjiang Folk Customs, which offers a systematic introduction to the lifestyle, religion, marriage customs, festival rites and other aspects of the colorful life of the 12 minorities living in Xinjiang; Exhibition of Historical and Cultural Relics unearthed from Xinjiang in the possession of over 1,000 pieces of precious cultural relics excavated and collected from silk road, including carpentries, iron wares, bronze wares, bright and beautiful brocades, tomb figures, pottery; and Exhibition of Ancient Mummies, which displays some preserved bodies of men, women and babies discovered in the desert.
