Located 8 kilometers to the north of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Baisha Village is the most ancient town which is near the world cultural heritage Lijiang Old Town. The town was named "Baisha", which means "white sand" because of the white sand on the ground. It is the earliest settlements of Naxi, where the Naxi nationality made a transition from nomadic to farming and become the political center of the former Lijiang.
In Ming Dynasty, plenty of perfectly splendid architecture were built by chieftain Mu and some of them have been well preserved till today in this mysterious town, where is also the birthplace of chieftain Mu. The architectural complex in Baisha Village is made up of two parts, folk residence and cultural sites. The folk residence is called "pengshizhi" which in the local language means "Baisha Streets". In the center of the old town there is a square where three thoroughfares intersect. Antique Houses and small stores stand on the both sides of these streets extend from south to north. A crystal clear stream winds around all the houses flowing through the small town from north to south.
In Baisha Village, there lie the former sites of Fuguo Temple, the biggest lamasery in Lijiang, Treasure Gathered Palace (Jibao palace) with exquisite murals on its wall, Glass Temple (Liuli Temple) and magnificent Wenchang Palace. In the Treasure Gathered Palace (Jibao palace) and Glass Temple (Liuli Temple), you can also enjoy an interesting White fine music show played by the local artists.
