Nanjing Road, whose name was "Nanking Road" before 1949 year, is the main shopping street of Shanghai and also one of the busiest shopping streets in the world. Millions of merchants come here, making it the window open to outside world and shopping paradise for domestic and foreign tourists.

Nanjing Road is divided into two parts by Tibet Middle Road: East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. East Nanjing Road is a dedicated commercial zone, and central section of the Bund is located at its eastern end. At further west of Nanjing Road, it is pedestrian mall where most of Shanghai's oldest and largest department stores as well as a variety of domestic retail outlets, and some traditional eateries with a long history are gathered.
